LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE

TEXAS 4000 FOR CANCER
Cancer Fighting Cycling Tour
August 2014 - Present
Program Coordinator, Volunteer Coordinator, Rider
WHAT I LEARNED
Texas 4000 is a 70-day cancer fighting cycling tour. It consists of 70 University of Texas students who fundraise money over a year and a half period to be donated to cancer research institutes. After a year and a half of preparation, we embark on a life-changing journey over the summer to spread hope across the country beginning in Austin, TX all the way to Anchorage, AK. It is difficult to put this experience into words, whether written or spoken. This journey was by far the most difficult experience of my life and yet also the most rewarding. In college you learn what it means to be an adult, but in Texas 4000 you learn what it means to be a human. I learned how to work with people even when I did not "click" with them. I learned how to persevere when I thought I could not keep going. I realized what was truly important in life and most importantly learned how to motivate and inspire others through both my actions and words.
WHAT I DID
-
Rode over 4,000 miles on a bicycle with a team of 75 students from Austin, TX to Anchorage, AK to raise awareness for cancer prevention methods by spreading hope, knowledge, and charity to communities across America
-
Individually raised over $15,000 for cancer research institutes through panhandling, letter-writing, and social media campaigns
-
Raised a record-breaking $750,000 as a team to be donated to cancer research institutes in Texas and around the country
-
Developed and implemented a 20-minute program and trained a group of 15 people to speak at sponsored events
-
Networked in the community to increase Texas 4000’s presence in both the corporate and nonprofit sectors
-
Reached out to Be The Match bone marrow registry to get them to come to a 150+ person sponsored event and inspired 76 people to sign up for the registry through my personal speech

CAMP TEXAS
Freshman Orientation Camp
August 2014 - Present
Counselor
WHAT I LEARNED
I learned what it meant to truly be a mentor as a Camp Texas Counselor. The incoming freshmen look to the counselors for advice on college and life and also look up to them as examples for who they desire to become. I had never had an experience where my actions effect and set an example for the actions of other people. This experience made me more aware of how I act and portray myself and reminded me how good intentions can powerfully influence those of others.
WHAT I DID
- Collaborate with a team of 100+ counselors to develop creative ways to interact with summer freshmen campers
- Manage and lead ~15 campers in mediating activities, team building challenges, and leadership exercises

DELTA SIGMA PI
Professinal Business Fraternity
August 2014 - Present
Counselor
WHAT I LEARNED
This was my first introduction into the corporate business world. Not only did I learn about the professional world, I learned how to interact with a team to complete multiple projects. We had to plan 3 major events as a group of 15 people with differing ideas. I had always considered myself a patient person, and this was the first time that patience was put to the test, and I am happy to say that test was a success. I was finally able to say with certainty that one of my strengths is patience, which makes me a team player and strong mediator.
WHAT I DID
-
Planned and executed a university wide event showcasing the experiences of a marketing professor and sales representative on how to market ones’ self, ideas, and products, attracting 100+ attendees
-
Coordinated a formal banquet by arranging activities and transportation for 150+ guests on a $7,000 budget
